Our Mission
Our mission is to provide a positive and all inclusive experience for children and youth of all abilities. We welcome learners who are typically developing as well as those with special needs and hope that you will give OCREC your consideration. Below you will find information that may help you decide if OCREC is a good fit for your child. Please call our office or email us for any questions or to discuss your options.

Our staff has basic First Aid and CPR training. OCREC staff are not professional aide support. We do not have medically trained personnel on our team. Participants must be able to feed and use the restroom independently as well as self-monitor/manage their medical needs.

OCREC is a predominantly outdoor based program. While our on-site location is located in Huntington Beach, we primarily operate at various public parks across Orange County. Weather and the general public can influence the atmosphere of our environment.

Participants are expected and encouraged to participate in all activities if possible, and to follow our safety rules and directions of our staff. Hands must be kept to themselves at all times to ensure the safety of our staff and participants. This is so that all participants can positively experience the benefits of participating in our programs. If your child has a history of aggressive, self-injurious, and/or defiant behaviors, or if your child has a history of elopement, this can create unsafe situations as our programs are primarily operating outdoors. Please note that participants who inflict injury upon others, themselves, or staff members may be expelled from the program. The parent/guardian may be held financially responsible for any destruction of OCREC property. In the event of a behavioral crisis that cannot be contained, a parent/guardian will be contacted and expected to pick up the child within 30 minutes of notice.
To be an OCREC participant without professional support*, a child must be able to feed, clothe, and toilet independently. Participants must be able to function in a group setting, transition from one location/activity to another, and follow directions. If your child elopes, refuses to transition or participate in group activities, and behaves in a harmful manner towards themself or others, a parent/guardian will be contacted to pick up their child within a 30 minute time frame. Referrals to one-to-one services or a more appropriate program will be made in these circumstances. If OCREC is not a good fit for your child, we aim to assist in finding appropriate resources and/or alternative solutions.

We recognize that some of our participants may require full or part time professional aide support and welcome this wholeheartedly. While OCREC does not provide aid support directly, we can offer referral services. Please contact our office for details about providing your own aide support.
